Why this is not the four-hundredth mind-mapping tool

If you write one paragraph about TabTree, this is the paragraph.

It is one document. The entire editor — templates, exporters, presentation mode, its own test suite — is a single HTML document, with two small modules beside it for the account. No installer, no build step, no runtime dependencies.
It works offline, and it is not a thin client. The whole editor is in your browser: edits are saved locally the moment you make them and sync when you are back online. Install it and a disconnected laptop still opens, edits and exports every map on that device.
Nothing is ever locked. The free plan is not a trial that expires: when Pro ends you keep every map readable, editable and exportable, and ten of them keep syncing. Any map leaves as a file, an image, a PDF, a video or a carousel — there is no proprietary format to be trapped in.
One document, six ways to read it. The same tree is a mind map, a kanban board, a Gantt chart, a page of notes, a spreadsheet or a full-screen presentation. You switch views — nothing is converted, so nothing is lost.
You can email the app with the map inside it. Export one .html file that carries both. Your reader double-clicks it and can read, navigate and even present your map — offline, with nothing installed and no account. No hosted competitor can do this, because their application does not fit in a file.
Claude writes into it. A free connector lets Claude read your library and turn a transcript, a spec or a conversation into a real map on your disk. On the official MCP registry, it is the only mind-mapping server that writes local files rather than requiring a cloud account.

What ships in the app

Templates	87 templates in 13 families — including Business Model Canvas, Lean Canvas, Value Proposition Canvas, SWOT, AARRR, the 1-Page Marketing Plan and OKRs. Every one has a direct link, so a template is a page you can open. A handful more are reserved for Pro.
Diagrams	18 generators: pie and donut charts, pyramids, funnels, 2×2 matrices, Venn diagrams, fishbones, magic quadrants, KPI dials, sunbursts and more — typed as text, drawn as ordinary shapes you can then move and recolour.
Artwork	156 line icons and 48 flat illustrations, drawn for the product, so nothing is fetched from anywhere
Looks	9 skins, 10 branch palettes, 12 font stacks, 16 backgrounds, light and dark themes — all system fonts, no web fonts, no external requests
Layouts	6: balanced, one-sided, org chart, radial, outline and timeline

What it is not

So you do not have to discover this in a review.

Not real-time collaboration. Two people cannot type in the same map at once today — shared cursors are on the roadmap, not in the product. What exists: a map published to a link can be opened for guest edits, and those come back into your own copy on a click.
Not a team product yet. An account is one person. Shared spaces and a Team plan are on the roadmap; today people who work together share a backup folder on iCloud, Dropbox or Google Drive — files, not cursors.
Not a native mobile app. On a phone it installs as a web app.
Not open source. The application is proprietary. Only the Claude connector is open, and it is permissively licensed.
Not a zero-knowledge vault. Synced maps are stored on our servers so they can reach your other devices. Maps you keep on one device never leave it, AI requests are relayed and never stored, and every map exports as a file you keep.
