Can I import my XMind files into TabTree?

Yes. Drop a .xmind file onto the map and it opens as a new map. Colours, tasks, priorities, notes, links and the full topic hierarchy come across. Files from XMind 8 import too, except their colours.

Do I need XMind installed to open my .xmind files?

No. A .xmind file is a ZIP archive, and TabTree reads it directly in the browser. You do not need XMind, an account, or an internet connection.

Are my files uploaded anywhere when I import them?

No. The import runs entirely in your browser. You can turn off your Wi-Fi first and it still works — that is the simplest way to prove nothing is sent to a server.

What does TabTree cost compared with an XMind subscription?

This list is deliberately specific. A migration page that only lists wins is a page you find out was wrong on your third file.

If your files come from XMind 8

XMind changed its internal format around 2020. Both are read here, but they are not read equally: older workbooks store their content as content.xml, and from those colours do not come across. Structure, tasks, priorities, notes and links do.

In practice it is easy to tell which you have: if the topics arrive grey-on-white, that file is an XMind 8 workbook. Re-saving it from a recent XMind version before importing brings the colours with it.

One thing to know before you move a team: TabTree is built around one person's thinking first, and a Team plan is still on the roadmap. If several people need the same map at the same second, we'd rather say so here than have you discover it after paying.

Moving a whole library

Import in bulk. Each .xmind becomes its own map — drop them in one after another, or use 📂 Open. Nothing is overwritten; every import creates a new map.
Sign in on your other devices. Your maps follow your account — on the free plan ten of them sync everywhere, and every map stays on the device you made it on.
Keep a copy of your own whenever you like: export any map, or all of them. Leaving TabTree is a button, not a support ticket.
